8 Sep 1944, R. E. Jones Wartime diary Posted: 04 Sep 2014 03:22 AM PDT Book / Document: Date(s) of events described: Fri, 8 Sep 1944 Lovely clear night, moon up at Midnt. Plane over about 4am & dropped bombs over Taipo way again. Japs at HQs seem to take raids as a matter of form now, no panicky yelling etc as was usual previously. Bulgaria requests armistice of Russia, Soviets approaching Y-Slav border & East Prussia N of Warsaw. Allies hold line Louvain to Sedan. Allies N of Antwerp & up to Dijon & attack towards W. Italian frontier. 2 pkts cigs issued. Cut grass, chopped wood, & started on Rita's door jamb. ((Not sure who Rita is.)) Saw Steve pm. Fried liver for pm meal, very good. Water problem becoming difficult again. Sat on roof till after midnight. |
