Whenever there are change of weather or seasons change, some people may experience symptoms such as sensitive skin, rashes, or runny nose, etc. These symptoms are potentially caused by allergies.
Allergic reactions caused by allergens can be divided into immediate and delayed hypersensitivity reactions. Immediate allergic reactions typically occur within an hour after contact with an allergen and may present symptoms such as skin rashes, urticaria, diarrhoea, or even angioedema. Delayed allergic reactions typically occur within several hours to a few days. Do not underestimate allergy as it can be life-threatening if not being addressed properly.
If a patient has experienced allergy symptoms, such as significant skin irritation, shortness of breath, swollen face, or even anaphylaxis, he or she may consider conducting an allergy test to identify allergens and to stay away from them, suggested by Dr Yeung Wan-yin, Consultant in Rheumatology at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong. 🔎Click here to view the article (*in Chinese only) in which Dr Yeung Wan-yin shares various allergy tests and ways to alleviate allergies.
識別致敏原 避免過敏風險
每逢轉天氣或轉季，不少市民會出現皮膚敏感、長紅疹或流鼻水等症狀，上述症狀有可能是由過敏症引起。
由過敏症引起的過敏反應可分為即時性和延後性反應。即時性過敏反應通常在接觸致敏原後一小時內出現，症狀包括皮膚出現紅疹、蕁麻疹、腹瀉甚至血管性水腫等；而延後性過敏反應通常在數小時至數天內出現。如果過敏反應處理不當，有機會危及性命，因此不要輕視過敏症。
