It is a blessing to have family and friends gathering around the dinner table. However, if you are not cautious about food hygiene, you will be at risk of acquiring gastroenteritis. Therefore, it is important to wash and cook food properly and maintain good personal, food and environmental hygiene to prevent gastroenteritis.
Gastroenteritis can be caused by bacterial, viral or toxin infection. Its typical symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Patients with severe bacterial gastroenteritis may even experience bloody diarrhoea. Significant or persistent vomiting and diarrhoea may result in dehydration. In extreme situation, it may lead to confusion and unconsciousness.
