13 Jul 1942, Barbara Anslow's diary Posted: 19 Feb 2012 04:46 AM PST Book / Document: Barbara Anslow's diary Date of events described: Mon, 1942-07-13 Rumour that 'Conte Verde' with Shanghai Americans aboard, struck a mine outside Singapore, and all rescued; another rumour that British stopped the ship because she carried guns, and took off her passengers then torpedoed her. CSO deny it, and nothing in local paper about it. Egypt news about the same, fierce fighing there. German advances in Russia. |

13 Jul 1942, Ella Buuck's wartime diary Posted: 03 Jul 2012 02:04 AM PDT Book / Document: Ella Buuck's wartime diary Date of events described: Mon, 1942-07-13 It has been raining and it's a rough sea. We had some engine trouble and the Conte Verde got way ahead of us, but we are going full speed ahead now. We had to have our porthole closed all night and it was more than stuffy. |
