ENJOY IT! | | | | Lot 93 | 2000 Château Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc 5eme Cru Classé (12 bottles OWC) – Est. HK$5,000 – HK$7,000 My highlight of this sale is lot 93, 12 bottles of 2000 Château Cantemerle. This wine shows a spirit of quality. Even though it’s only classed as a fifth growth in the 1855 Classification, it is as good as any second growth. This wine reaches beyond branding, ratings or pricing. The pure quality gives it the power to age 7-10 years in bottle. As a wine lover, the 2000 Château Cantemerle should be one of the highest-regarded items in your cellar. - Him Ho, Wine Specialist | | | | Lot 216 | 2002 Screaming Eagle (2 bottles) - Est. HK$35,000 – HK$48,000 My highlight of this sale is lot 216, 2 bottles of 2002 Screaming Eagle. I love that this was one of the vintages produced under original female-owner/-winemaker duo, Jean Phillips and Heidi Barrett (when that was so much less common); I love that it marks the first decade of the launch of Screaming Eagle, and most of all I love that one of the bottles has a sneaky second front label down the side – such a delightful reminder of the humanness of the world of wine, which we so easily forget when we get into the upper echelons of wine. That bottle should be worth double! - Leigh-Ann Luckett, Wine Specialist, Operations Director | | | | Lot 64 | 2000 Château Margaux, Margaux 1er Cru Classé (1 bottle) – Est. HK$6,500 – HK$9,500 My highlight of this sale is lot 63, 1 bottle of 2000 Château Margaux. From an exceptional terroir grows a great wine – which has been the case for five forward-looking centuries at Château Margaux. Since the 17th Century, the first wine of Château Margaux has been listed as one of the finest wines in the entire world. I whole-heartedly agree with Robert Parker in giving this wine 100 points – I love the aromatics, elegance and delicacy; the filigree tannin with immense depth and that monumental finish. Yours to lose if you miss out on this unbelievable lot. - Carol Gong, Wine Specialist, Regional Director | | | | Lot 114 | 2008 Taittinger Artist Collection: Sebastião Salgado (6 Bottles with individual gift boxes) - Est. HK$6,500- HK$9,000 When I see a bottle of 2008 Champagne, I can’t keep my hands off of it - as long as my wallet allows. It is the best vintage in the 21st century, even better than 2002! What I find so special about this lot is that it’s the best vintage from one of the top Champagne houses in possibly the most beautiful packaging I’ve seen in a long time. The limited-edition label by the talented Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado is simply gorgeous! I’m now a big fan of his work which is focused around the biodiversity of the planet, highlighting that which has not been transformed by human beings. It is a statement of what is most universal and original: life, simple and peaceful. This lot is a triple whammy! - Jessica Wu, Senior Wine Specialist, Regional Director | | | | Lots 87 - 90 | Descendientes de Jose Palacios Moncerbal, La Farona and Las Lamas - Estimates vary There are so many factors that contribute to these wines being some of the coolest wines out there for cork dorks. Alvaro Palacios is a hero for his revival of forgotten Spanish regions. And not just regions – with the Descendientes range, he and nephew, Ricardo Perez, are making a star of a grape the world nearly forgot; which is so exciting for preserving the much-needed diversity of in the wine world. Then there’s the beautiful sentimentality of the name, dedicated to his late father. What more could you want a single wine to bring to the table? - Leigh-Ann Luckett, Wine Specialist, Operations Director | | | | Lot 55 | 1997 Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon (1 Magnum) - Est. HK$4,200 – HK$5,500 Shafer Vineyards was founded in 1978 and their flagship ‘Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon’ has been one of most sought-after Napa Valley wines worldwide. In fact, this is one of the most memorable and surprising wines that I’ve enjoyed from the region. Not surprisingly, many of my wine buddies agree! 1997 is a showstopper vintage – not only considered the best in its decade, it still ranks as one of Napa’s top vintages to date. Aren’t you curious how the top wine from an elite winery performs in one of the best vintages? - Jessica Wu, Senior Wine Specialist, Regional Director | | | |
