Gleneagles has recently been accredited as a Baby-Friendly Hospital by the Baby Friendly Initiative Hong Kong Association and now stands as the first and currently the only private hospital in Hong Kong to have achieved this recognition.

🔎放射科資訊科技與AI應用 🔎藥劑師協助把關臨床試驗藥物安全 | |  | Early Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation: Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) to Restore Normal Heartbeat
In recent years, a new approach has been adopted in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Patients are now encouraged to pursue proactive rhythm control treatment within the first year after diagnosis to reduce the risks of stroke, hospitalisation, and death.
Dr HAI Siu-han Jo Jo, Clinical Assistant Professor of Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine of The University of Hong Kong and Specialist in Cardiology, points out that the previous focus of atrial fibrillation treatment was primarily on stroke prevention. Doctors assessed patients' risk using the CHA2DS2-VASc score, advising high-risk individuals to take anticoagulants. For patients experiencing tachycardia due to atrial fibrillation, medications were often prescribed to slow the heart rate. However, recent studies have shown that restoring normal heart rhythm within the first year after diagnosis is more effective in lowering the risks of stroke, hospitalisation for heart failure, or heart attack than merely controlling the heart rate.
Dr Hai emphasises that ablation of atrial fibrillation, performed through minimally invasive procedures, is significantly more effective in restoring and maintaining normal heart rhythms compared to traditional medications. This technique utilises high-frequency, high-voltage currents to precisely target atrial tissue while minimising damage to surrounding organs, thereby reducing the risk of long-term complications. Research indicates that approximately 80% of patients do not experience a recurrence within a year after the procedure.
Additionally, the recovery period for this minimally invasive operation is short, with patients typically able to be discharged the day after surgery. Dr Hai advises that for individuals at risk of atrial fibrillation, early examination and treatment are essential to effectively reduce the risks of stroke, hospitalisation for heart failure, heart attacks, or death from cardiovascular causes.

近年，醫學界對治療心房顫動有新的方向，提出患者在確診後的首年內應積極治療，以大幅降低中風、住院及死亡風險。
香港大學臨床醫學學院內科學系臨床助理教授、心臟科專科醫生奚小嫻指出，以往治療心房顫動的重點是預防中風，醫生會根據 CHA2DS2-VASc 評分來評估患者的風險，高風險患者需要服用抗凝血藥物（即薄血藥）；另外，心搏過速的患者則以藥物減緩心跳速度。然而，有研究發現，於病發後首年將心房顫動恢復至正常心律，比單純控制心搏速度更有效減低中風、心臟病發或心臟衰竭而入院，或因心臟病導致死亡的風險。
奚醫生強調，透過微創方法進行消融手術，比傳統藥物更有效恢復及保持正常心律。其中脈衝場消融術（PFA）利用高頻高壓電流精確針對心房組織，能避免傷害附近器官，從而減少長期併發症的風險。研究顯示，約80%的患者在手術後一年內不會復發。
此外，微創手術的恢復期短，患者通常可於手術後翌日出院。奚醫生建議，對於有心房顫動風險的患者，儘早進行檢查和治療是關鍵，這樣才能有效降低因中風、心臟病發或心臟衰竭而入院，或因心臟病導致死亡的風險。
