7 Aug 1942, Barbara Anslow's diary Posted: 22 Feb 2012 03:25 AM PST Book / Document: Barbara Anslow's diary Date of events described: Fri, 1942-08-07 Selwyn-Clarke came in, and brought false teeth, which aren't Mum's. ((Just before the Jap attack, Dr Chawn in town was making a denture for Mum, so in camp she asked if there was any chance of getting it. In retrospect, what a fantastic person Selwyn-Clarke was to take time, under difficult circumstances i.e. the Japs, to try to ferret out someone's denture!)) Wonderful news - all the VADs are due here on Monday, so glad for Mabel's sake. |

An invoice with today's date, made up by the Department store Habade, shows that he was soon to receive a package that would include soap (laundry and toilet), brown sugar, size 9 rubber shoes, chocolate, toothpaste, currants, needle and thread, honey and even gruyere cheese.

The sunset was beautiful. There was a concert this evening, given by "Asama" passengers. It was very good. One of the world's best piano players played several pieces. Also special songs by the Brazilian folks. |
