New preventive treatment options for patients with migraine Headache is one of the most commonly seen illnesses in Hong Kong. Many people may just take simple painkillers and get it over with. However, apart from primary headache like migraine or tension headache, it may also be secondary headache caused by brain tumor, brain hemorrhage or encephalitis, etc. Therefore, if the headache is severe or progressive with time, it is an alarming sign and you should seek medical advice as early as possible!
Migraine can cause nausea or photophobia and have substantial impact on patients' work and daily life if not well controlled. Besides, it can also affect sleep quality and induce depression or anxiety. Although there is no cure for migraine, preventive treatment with medications can help reducing frequency and severity of migraine attacks. Lately there is a breakthrough preventive medication, which can improve migraine by controlling a neuropeptide called CGRP.
