Women should pay more attention to cardiac health due to atypical symptoms Cardiac diseases are often considered as men's diseases, however, women should also pay attention to their cardiac health. Some of the female patients with cardiovascular disease may present atypical symptoms, misleading them and hence making it difficult for them to detect the problem and receive appropriate treatment in a timely manner. Worldwide statistics show that the death rate of cardiac diseases is higher among women than men. Generally, female hormones provide protection for the cardiovascular system, said Dr Chan Pak-hei, Gleneagles' Honorary Consultant in Cardiology. However, the level of hormones would gradually decline during menopause which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Thus, women at menopause should take extra care of their heart health as the hormone protection against cardiovascular diseases would be lowered. Dr Chan reminds women if any uncertain symptoms are observed, they should conduct a check-up as soon as possible to exclude the possibility of developing cardiovascular diseases, which could help them prevent long-term complications due to delay in treatment. 🔎Read on the following article (*in Chinese only) in which Dr Chan Pak-hei shares the notes and information of women's cardiac health. |
