Be Part of eRead Scheme Cultivate eReading Culture Together

Dear Principals and Teachers,

Be Part of eRead Scheme
Cultivate eReading Culture Together

In the coming few years, school campuses with wifi will become the majority, and students will have their own tablets or portable devices. This is a great opportunity to start promoting eReading to students. Questions will arise at the same time: How will we do it? How much will it cost? Where on the Internet will this electronic book collection be, and will it be accessible easily enough for our students?

To offer an answer to these questions, Hong Kong Education City (HKEdCity) is going to launch eRead Scheme in the 2015/16 school year, aiming to provide a wide range of affordable, quality eBooks for schools and promote reading culture. Under the scheme, all the eBooks are accessible by different platforms (including Android, iOS and Windows (web browser)) through ‘EdBookShelf’, HKEdCity’s electronic bookshelf. Also readily available on EdBookShelf are some built-in interactive learning tools, such as Text-to-Speech (Cantonese, Putonghua and English), free-hand writing and drawing, bookmarking, note-taking and annotation functions. With these tools, students are able to achieve self-directed learning without even noticing it, and reading will be more efficient for them.

The first year of the Scheme (2015/16 school year) will be a pilot period, during which HKEdCity will collaborate with Hong Kong Teacher-Librarian’s Association (HKTLA), letting interested schools enjoy the services for free. We hope that valuable comments and public experience sharing from participating teachers and students will contribute to the development of the Scheme and eReading as a whole, subsequently benefiting even more teachers and students.

We sincerely invite you to be part of the Scheme in the pilot period and promote reading together with us. Please click here for more details of the Scheme and to download the application form. If you are interested in joining the Scheme, please submit the completed form via email to info@hkedcity.net or fax to 2624 1088 on or before 5 June 2015. Results of applications will be announced in June.

Should you have any queries, please feel free to email us at info@hkedcity.net, or contact us on 2624 1000.

Best wishes,
Hong Kong Education City
